In the book of Daniel chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar sees the saving power of God, when 3 Hebrew lads survived a furnace designed to consume them instantly. The King exclaims " Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego". A short time later he makes a decree "If anyone speaks a word against their God, they'll be torn limb from limb and their houses turned into rubble." King Neb recognized God's power to save the boys in the furnace but he missed the point of WHY God did it... it was for the sake of mercy. The Lords mercy IS the outworking of His power. A focus on power alone will leave you with nothing.... yes it’s awe inspiring... yes it’s gobsmacking, but Gods mercy is what Nebuchadnezzar should have been inspired to follow. Let’s not simply be ‘gobsmacked’ by Gods power, but make the personal sacrifice to do likewise in showing mercy. Grace & Peace Aliki
