Promise of Old for New

Ezekiel 36:26-27

I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and put a new spirit in you; I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new obedient heart.

I will put my spirit in you so you will obey my laws and do whatever I command.

What a glorious plan! It roars at the issue of our sinful nature with a promise to replace our disobedient hearts with His heart; and put His Spirit in governance over that new realm. God’s plan of salvation is the ultimate rescue. His fierce desire to preserve us, his precious creation, left nothing undone. We can’t save ourselves by right living, so Jesus lived in perfect obedience to the Father on our behalf. We can’t die for our own sins, so Jesus became our sacrifice. And even after receiving salvation, we can’t subdue our own flesh; so God plants His own spirit in what was once decaying and against Him, to change and protect His investment. How amazing. How marvellous.
