These are stilts used by Sri Lankan men to fish in shallow waters at dawn & dusk. The crossbar makes it possible for them to use a fishing pole, while seated above the sea life.
Though they make it look easy, its a precarious position to catch spotted herrings & small mackerel, requiring a lot of skill & balance.
Silt fishing started around World War II but many stopped after the tsunami of 2004. Fear gripped the east coast until recent years, and now as I’ve captured, the stilts are back.
Fear has thrown me off the track at times. Often with simple things like not being able to perform a particular song live, without flat notes 🎶.
In the past, I’d happily avoid those troublesome melodies until a bunch of people DESPERATELY requested it, then I’d have to swallow the lump in my throat and just do it (thank you nike).
Thankfully it’s a problem of the past because I learned (the hard way) to only write & record songs that fitted my style & natural ability. Having said that, the ‘stretching’ process with difficult songs has improved areas of my singing.
So what about you? What fear has thrown you off your game? Off your song? Off your calling? Do you put excess energy into avoiding something or someone because of fear?
If so, here is a passage of scripture that I adore. It’s upheld me for most of my life & I pray it will lift you beyond fear and place you in Gods perfect will.
Isaiah 43:1-6 But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.
Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth —
