Great Stone

The Nine Arch Bridge spans an 91m gap between Ella and Demodara train stations amongst dense greenery. It rises from the stream below in an old world elegance, making todays forest trek worth while. Completed in 1921 there’s no steel in its construction, only stones, bricks and cement. It’s an architectural and engineering beauty. Looking to its base I remembered that Jesus is described as the cornerstone of the church in the new covenant... and wow that stone is responsible for an enormous structure! A reliable bridge. A reliable saviour. A reliable future. “... See I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. (Isaiah 28:16) Amen
