Soccer season is here again and I love watching my son play on Saturdays. Naturally the first game deserves a few photos, so I stood on the sidelines armed and dangerous. It's no easy feat catching the perfect shot ,of the most talented and handsome player on the field. Several factors got in my way.
Firstly the ball is traveling all over the field but Alex isn't playing all over the field. Secondly, by the time I realised the ball had connected with his foot or other body part ,the show was over and so was my kodak moment. So I got a little canny...
Instead of looking through the view finder and following the ball all over the field, I followed only Alex all over the field, with the focus ready and finger set to press the button. As soon as the ball entered my reference, I hit the shutter and got the shot. It worked like a charm and I think there's a spiritual principle to draw here about keeping the right perspective.
My good friend, Linda Parker often says "Aliki when you are in the storm, don't watch the storm, but fix your eyes on the goal which is on the other side. Stay focused on your destination and keep walking towards it. Then the storm will have no power over you." Good advice. If you follow the games that's all you'll get..... If you follow the main player, you'll get the shot you are looking for.
Keep smiling all you soccer Mums! |
