The Face of Ministry Our time in Normanton with the Aboriginal and Islander Christian Fellowship was illuminating and humbling. We were inspired at the personal sacrifice of Pastors serving faithfully in this indigenous community, and learnt new things as we fitted into a very different style of ministry.
Cairns provided the rare opportunity to minister to the hearing impaired as the Wesleyan-Methodist senior pastor translated every spoken and sung word into sign language. It was a precious cross cultural experience, enjoyed on both sides especially with the visuals. Thank you Pastor Ruth ?
We dropped into Cardwell for (what was supposed to be) a flying overnight visit and brief time of ministry with a fledgling house church. It was a beautiful evening of sharing. They asked us to stay another night and put on a concert in the public park. As word got around, locals from all walks & circumstances rolled up for something a little different and unexpected. Many were spiritually revived and encouraged. From our perspective it was unplanned, but again the fingerprints of God (even up to the morning we left) said otherwise. God is amazing.
Emerald involved songs for the Uniting Church flower festival and morning service and an hour of ministry in word and song with the AOG folk.. who love raison toast by the way. That evening time spent praying for others at the altar, was a spiritual delight, reminding me of the heartbeat of God….
Pearls & Exhortations
... I always excite at the prospect of leaving a community or individual with a fresh portrait of God’s most affectionate love for them. As one of my favourite teachers says, “God is the kindest person I’ve ever known” (Graham Cooke). For some it is a radical picture, one I’m still getting my own head around. Certainly it’s fair to say that God reveals His grace differently to different people. Even so, to grasp this kindness more fully would have marvellous repercussions. It starts like a drop of medicine in our own soul, but the rings ripple out to soothe anyone we have contact with…even if that contact is just a fleeting smile.
Brothers & sisters I encourage you today to keep modifying your portrait of God. Be radical, don’t hold back on colour or canvas size! Dare to paint what you would dare to believe… Believe what you would dare to hope for…
