For the past 2.5 years we've been using a 1600 lumen SVGA NEC
projector. It has been incredibly reliable, travelling with us
everywhere - over 100,000 kilometres. It's been on loan from one of our awesome supporters. As some of you have experienced, without
our data projector ministry would have been alot less impacting. As we look to the future,
and consider the varied venues in which Aliki shares, we believe this part of our kit needs an upgrade. Although an increasing number of venues have projection facilities, often they only cope with displaying song words and struggle with full colour video. In addition there's increasing opportunity for daytime events, where the amount of ambient light is a major challenge for any projector especially one that is less than 2000 lumens and about 300:1 contrast.
Taking the above into account it's time to move things up a level. After his usual hours of research Rob has found the best value projector for Square One Ministries, is the CANON XEED X600 - 3500 lumens and 1000:1 contrast. For those interested the details below are from the Canon website. This projector has a RRP of $4,999 (typical street price $4,500).

Amazingly now having tried to speak with someone about purchasing the Canon projector, I have discovered that no-one carries any Canon projector as a stock item!!!! Like me you may be wondering why? After speaking with a couple of dealers about this, the picture becomes clearer; the service and support is very poor, so much so that both dealers inferred that if there was absolutely no other option then they would investigate sourcing one of the above units for me!!! This is not the kind of response that I was looking for especially when we have to rely on this particular part of the tech kit so heavily. so although the image on the Canon projector is widely held in high regard I have decided that it poses to great a risk. :-(
As some of your reading this will know I have not been a huge fan of DLP type projectors HOWEVER it now seems that I will have to reconsider this bias as at this point one of the best value/reliable/bright projectors is a DLP based unit. Please pray that I would know divine wisdom as I seek to discover the best unit for the ministry needs.
thoughtfully,
Rob
